Menue: Borg Image Gallery

Wonderborg is an amazing toy robot made by Bandai (yeh the tamagotchi people) The beautiful thing about this robot is that it can be programmed up on bandai's hand held videogame system 'Wonderswan' using a simple symbolic language. (There's also a PC version but where's the fun in that?)

Once programmed it is capable of autonomous behaviour and able to make decision about how to move and respond to various stimulus in its environment depending on how you have programmed it. In other words it actually thinks and makes decision instead of just slavishly following a set of moves like earlier toy robots (for example Big Track. Cool for its time).

I decided to throw up this page because there appears to be very little info about wonderborg out side of Japan (sadly the borg is only sold in Japan so if you want one it's time to go visit those videogame import shops).

The good news for us non Japanese types is the wonderswan software is in English and there's some minimal English instructions on the official web site.

The bad news is assembly and advanced instructions are all in Japanese but I'll Put any info I figure out up here.

assembly is very easy though so you shouldn't have to much trouble - look at the pictures closely mind.

Another nice thing about the wonderborg is that bandai were thoughtful enough to provide one user definable sensor and one output so peripherals and customisation are possible.

With it's camouflage MY wonderborg can navigate a domestic environment completely unnoticed.

I found this cool page on the official site. Sadly I don't understand a word but :-) Hey I get the idea!

I just realised there's not a lot of footage of the wonderborg actually moving out there on the web so....
